How to find the best keywords for your blog!

You’ve written many blogs, and they are amazing, filled with valuable information - but somehow they don’t get the deserved visits, what could you be doing wrong?

It’s all about the SEO! By now, you must know how great of a role it plays in the discoverability of your work, that is why it is essential to implement a carefully thought strategy. One of the key aspects of SEO is having an amazing keyword master plan. Not to worry, I will help you find the best keywords for your blog, you just need to implement the following steps!

Step 1: Analyze your topic

First and foremost you need to take your time and not rush immediately towards finding keywords. You must start from the basics, studying your topic in relation to your niche. Here are some aspects to consider:

  • Put yourself in the shoes of your ideal customer. If you were to seek the information that you are providing, what would you type in the search bar? In order to scrap important words that you will later use for your blogpost keyword strategy, you must describe your content in a few words/questions.

  • Do online research and study your competitor’s blog posts, what are the keywords in their title and throughout the text?

  • While you are researching, type in a few words related to your topic from the client’s perspective, and see what Google suggests. You can later use them in your strategy!

Step 2: Know your audience

What kind of info is your ideal audience seeking to receive from your post? In order to learn which keywords work best, you must know who your ideal clients are and their needs. When contemplating how to choose the most efficient ones, answer all the questions related to your topic which your audience may search for.

Example: Are you are a photographer that writes about a beautiful wedding in Tuscany? Then if you are seeking to attract couples who want to tie the knot abroad, then your blog will have to include the main focus keywords: “destination” and “wedding”. Now, you have the foundation to your strategy, but furthermore, you need to break down the topic by location, that is to include Italy, Tuscany, or any other place related to your target audience and blogpost.

Step 3: How to search for the best keywords for your blog.

Once you’ve analyzed your topic and audience, it is time to put knowledge into practice! Here are some tools you can use:

  1. Google Search! Yes, sounds simple, doesn’t it? Just type in few focus words and see which suggestions are presented that people search for. That will give you an idea about using both short-tail and long-tail keywords. You can further refine them by focusing on the search intent of the users.

  2. Google Keyword Planner - You will have to set up a Google Ads account for this combined with Google Trends but you will get only an approximate idea.

  3. Ubersuggest - What I love to use is this amazing app that gives you a detailed insight that you can use to find the best keywords for your blog. It shows you precise data like keyword research volume, content ideas - with links from blogs below which contain the keywords, many word combination suggestions that you can use for your main (focus) keyword, and secondary keywords. Just type in a word then search for keyword ideas.

  3. How to have the best romantic wedding photos!

  4. 4 easy steps on how to design romantic wedding invitations.

Step 4: How many keywords to choose for your blogpost

After you’ve found the best keywords for your blog you need to strategize how many times you’re going to include them

.Depending on how many words the blog contains, it is important to always have one main keyword and one or two secondary keywords. Based on my experience, it is vital for the leading one to be used in the:

  • Title

  • Intro

  • First Part

  • Second Part

  • Conclusion

This is the focal point that will build the base for your SEO. To back up and strengthen the foundation, use secondary keywords at least 2x each in the main part (first & second part). You can also use a third secondary keyword but I would advise you include it only once.

Step 5: Balance keywords

When you include them, be absolutely sure that the same keyword isn’t too close and in the same paragraph. You want your readers to digest your content naturally and not be tripped by repeated terms ever so often. That is why it is vital to carefully place them according to my guideline above and stick to that blogpost keyword strategy.
